Sleep Study Instructions

 Please wash your hair prior to coming to the sleep center. Do not use hair sprays, cream rinses or conditioners. Please do not apply any type of oily based product to your face or body. Do not apply any makeup or after-shave to your face or body.

 Take your regular medications unless otherwise instructed by your referring physician. Please record the time for all medications taken the day of the study and submit to the Sleep technician when you arrive for your study. Bring any medications with you that you may need during your stay in the lab.

 Please try to get a normal night’s sleep the night before your study. Try to maintain your normal sleep patterns, i.e.- do not take naps during the day of your study and do not try to stay awake the night before your study.

 Do not consume any type of caffeinated or alcoholic beverages the day of your study and limit your total fluid intake after 5:00 p.m. the evening of your study.

 You are required to sleep in nightclothes, (i.e., pajamas, gowns, shorts & T-shirts), sleeping in undergarments is not allowed. Your nightclothes should be loose and, preferably, two-piece. Cotton clothing is preferred but do not wear anything of a silky nature (silk, satin, nylon, etc.). Please feel free to bring any personal belongings (pillow, blanket, etc.), with you that may help you sleep more comfortably.

 Please feel free to bring books or magazines with you as aids to help you fall asleep.

 Bathroom and shower facilities are available for your convenience. However, please bring all supplies you will need the morning after your sleep study. (Shampoo, soap, hairdryer, hairspray, shaving cream, razor, toothpaste, toothbrush, personal feminine hygiene items, etc.).

 If you have been scheduled for a MSLT (daytime sleep study), you may want to prepare your own meals to bring with you. A refrigerator and microwave are available for your use.

 All studies will terminated between 5:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. A private shower and changing room is available. Departure from the lab will be no later than 6:00 a.m.

THE NIGHT OF YOUR STUDY:

Fairfax Sleep Lab: Upon entering the Prosperity Medical Center complex, please park in the garage and come to the automatic doors of the 8503 building (please note that the main entrance to the building faces away from Arlington Boulevard). There will be a security entry system once you walk through the first set of automatic doors to your right. Follow the directions on the keypad to buzz the Technician in the Sleep lab. The Technician will then buzz you into the building. Take the elevators to the third floor and proceed to the right, down the hall to Suite 340. Please be sure not to arrive any earlier than 9:00 p.m.   If you have any questions please call the Patient Care Coordinator at 703-645-2244, Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  If you will be late the night of your appointment, please notify the Sleep Technician as soon possible at 703-645-2244, ext. 117 after 9:00 p.m.

Loudoun Sleep Lab: Upon arrival at the Professional Center at Beaumeade, 21785 Filigree Court, Ashburn, VA, remain in your car until a Technician is visible at the main door to escort you to the Sleep lab.  Please be sure not to arrive any earlier than 9:00 p.m.  If you have any questions please call the Patient Care Coordinator at 703-858-3711, Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  If you will be late the night of your appointment, please notify the Technician as soon possible at 703-724-9252 after 9:00 p.m.

ONCE YOUR TEST IS COMPLETE, YOU SHOULD CONTACT YOUR REFERRING PHYSICIAN WITHIN 6 – 10 DAY BUSINESS DAYS FOR YOUR TEST RESULTS.
